We spent a magical day in a modern architectural jewel in Prague's Vinohrady district. And our horses settled right in...
The Laichter House, designed by architect Jan Kotěra in the early 20th century, charmed us as soon as we entered its staircase hall. We couldn’t take our eyes off the walls, painted by František Kysela. And the chandelier, designed by Franta Anýž. And all the hidden spots and perfectly crafted details! You can feel the arts-and-crafts spirit and artistic approach in every corner.
Situated in Prague's Chopinova Street, the building was constructed in 1908–1910 and originally housed the family apartment of publisher Jan Laichter, the headquarters of his publishing house, and several rental apartments. After World War II, the publishing house was shut down, and the whole building was nationalised in the 1960s. After the Velvet Revolution of 1989, the Laichter family was able to reclaim the house, and today the publisher's great-great-grandson, Štěpán, is in charge of its restoration.

The wooden birds and horses from our KUTULU, HIPO, and PI-PI series felt right at home in the Laichter House. They matched the furniture and decorations beautifully, made friends with a majestic black raven, and even experienced what it’s like to be displayed alongside more than 100-year-old Czech toys!

Together, they explored Jan Laichter's study overlooking the Rieger Gardens as well as the “Umývárna” suite, which is now available for accommodation. There’s plenty of sunlight, a sauna, and a wonderful garden view. An idea occurred to HYACINT: NOXUS, how about we move in? – And so the horses decided to stay. On a shelf, on the sill, on display. They’re looking forward to meeting a guest or two. Will it be you?

The Laichter House is busy as ever: with book launches, auctions, screenings, workshops, guided tours, and more. Why not check out the event calendar – or book your accommodation?
And in the meantime, you can discover Adriana Vančová's beautiful photographs of our visit.
