The best toys for kids from one year of age are those that foster imagination and encourage different kinds of play. Let’s explore together!
At one year old, most children are intrigued by stacking toys, stuffed animals, and of course, building blocks. It’s great fun to watch how the play transforms over time: a younger toddler will probably start by stacking blocks on top of each other, building simple towers and knocking them down with gusto.
Older children often practise advanced cognitive and motor skills while playing – without even realising it! They might sort blocks by colour, distinguish shapes, or learn to build more complex structures. In addition to fine motor skills, this helps develop children's imagination, creativity, problem-solving skills, and ability to focus.
Colours play a crucial role in young kids’ development, and their toys should reflect this. A toddler will gradually learn to recognise different hues, and vivid or contrasting colours are especially beneficial at this age. We kept this in mind while creating XYLONAUT and BRIKULO, our wooden building sets.

BRIKULO is a set of wooden blocks certified for children from 1 year of age and available in four colour options: high-contrast black-and-white as well as blue-and-red, candy pink, and sunny yellow. You can combine two or more sets for extra fun!
With the BRIKULO building set, children can build towers, construct various structures, and learn about geometric shapes and even basic fractions. – Look, a house is growing. And another one. Some are striped and some are round. A square has four quarters, a circle has two halves. When I stack two cylinders, they double in size…
One of our most popular interactive wooden toys, the XYLONAUT building set, is also certified for one-year-olds. But frankly, it’s a big hit with all ages, including adults! Each block is painted with a different combination of shapes and colours, so the possibilities are quite literally endless. You can assemble one of the 54 original motives – or anything else that comes to mind. Ripe red apples and blue fish. A plane, a tower? As you wish!
All KUTULU wooden toys have received the CE (Conformité Européenne) certification. This means they have undergone rigorous tests and met the requirements of EU legislation. For example, every part of a toy for a one-year-old has to pass a test confirming it’s large enough to prevent the child from swallowing it. Safety truly matters to us.
